COLAS LIMITED

Falklands RAF Mount Pleasant Finished Project

Falklands RAF Mount Pleasant

Colas ltd undertook a full resurfacing of the 25 year old runways and taxiways and upgrade AGL and electrical installations at RAF Mount Pleasant.
The base’s main runway was 2,600m long and the secondary runway was 1,500m in length. The width of the main runway was 45m. As Principal Contractor, Colas was responsible for mobilising all resources to the Falkland Islands and co-ordinating and delivering all elements of the project in accordance with the client’s specified phasing requirements.
Colas’ solution involved a rapid mobilisation process which demanded careful logistical planning since a large amount of plant, equipment and materials had to be shipped from the UK to the Falkland Islands. Aggregate for the pavement asphalt and drainage was sourced from a quarry on the island but all others materials were transported from the UK.
Colas placed great emphasis on guaranteeing that they adhered to the client’s prerequisite of allowing flights to and from to continue.
