Waste loading chamber for AP200 ROtary incinerator for Moredun Group research centre.

Moredun Group maintains biosecurity for research centre.

In 1995, the UK government funded the installation of an incinerator to safely remove BSE, carcasses and laboratory waste. Incineration is vital for the secure destruction of clinical and animal waste as it carries massive risks to biosecurity if it is not contained and disposed of responsibly.
The installation also contained an additional heat recovery system. Used to create humidity for specific environments, whereas the hot water is used for multiple applications across the large site.
The AP200 machine, featuring an automatic waste charging system. Clinical waste is loaded via the wheeled bins, whereas animals are loaded by an electric gantry overhead crane. Both systems have been designed to avoid or minimise the need for physical contact with the waste. The automatic loading system is complimented by an automatic de-ashing system.
The AP200 incineration machine is still in use today 20+ years after installation and many thousands of cycles later.
