UK government required a consultation on reducing the number of electoral constituencies and sought a ‘digital by default’ solution to facilitate greater levels of public engagement and provide a modern, innovative and cost effective approach to public consultation.
The solution provided a polished and highly usable mapping interface that enabled the public to locate proposed changes via postcode or region. Simple tools facilitated users to easily submit comments, interact with existing comments, examine region specific data and toggle varying layers on and off.
Dual language functionality for the Wales Portal enabled users to switch seamlessly between the English and Welsh languages.
We used Open Source technology and Amazon Cloud Services to deliver the most cost effective solution, while providing highly scalable ‘elastic’ hosting capabilities to effectively manage the load peaks that occurred on the day of release and at peak news times - over 200,000 sessions in 24 hours.
