Sherrards assisted Chinese company Guangdong Xinbao Electrical Appliance Holdings, trading under its brand Donlim, on the English law aspects of its acquisition of Morphy Richards Consumer Appliances Limited (MRCA), acting alongside a major Chinese law firm, which involved extensive negotiations and required approval from the Chinese government, completing in March 2023.
Based in China, Donlim is a major manufacturer of kitchen appliances and other electrical goods, with over 28,000 staff and revenues of RMB14.9bn in 2021. Donlim aimed to expand its portfolio by acquiring Morphy Richards, a British brand established in 1936. Its previous owner was an Irish company with substantial operations in the UK and other major markets, which retained the rights to the Morphy Richards brand in some markets.
Donlim now has a permanent presence in the UK to expand its offering here, as well as having this esteemed British brand to use in its operations overseas.
