Athlone Civic Centre and Library, Republic of Ireland

Athlone Civic Centre from the main square
The project comprises 4 principal organising elements. A huge toplit entrance hall gives access to all elements of the building. It contains the ceremonial stair to the council debating chamber and is the building's key organising space. To its right is the one stop shop with debating chamber above. To its left is the double height library, above which sit administrative offices on 2 levels. The project is largely naturally ventilated. Reconstructed stone louvres to the south elevation reinforce the architectural language and provide summer shading , as a key part of the project’s sustainability.
