Eden Project Playground Design: Nature’s Playground

Wooden Tree Of Life play feature at the Eden Project in Cornwall.
TouchWood designed and built a new adventure play area for the Eden Project in Cornwall. 'Nature’s Playground' is one of the largest outdoor play areas in the south west, featuring bespoke slides, swings, water play, suspended nets and a miniature clay quarry. Its centrepiece is a nine-metre-high Tree of Life tower with a viewing nest and a corkscrew tube slide.
The 500m2 playground offers sensory and accessible play, using natural and sustainable materials. It aligns with Eden’s values of connecting with nature and promoting sustainability. Eden’s Chief Marketing Officer, Emma Evans, praised TouchWood’s design for its natural and sustainable play elements.
Traditional craft skills were employed, including a granite-built water cascade and woven willow withies. The local community was engaged through the Designing for Real process, involving collaborative construction with a local school group.
The playscape encourages multi-sensory engagement and inclusive play for all.
