In 2016 NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organisation) designated Cyberspace as the 5th warfare dimension after land, sea, air and space. Cyberspace in recent years has become a unique theatre of operations where new and emerging adversaries can have as much impact as a larger, nation-state sponsored threat actor, where cross-discipline, multi-lateral technical supremacy is seen as the key indicator of an adversaries threat quotient regardless of size. The internet has opened up the opportunity for anyone with a basic, requisite set of technical expertise to learn and develop technical competency in mounting generally unsophisticated attacks, all the way through to developing low level exploits targeting critical network infrastructure.
