PRV/TPRV's are safety devices built in to all boilers, unvented cylinders, and heat interface units (HIU's). Also, storage water tanks have overflows, air-conditioning units have drip trays, and MVHR systems have condensation drip trays. Usually the outlet for all these devices is hard-piped to an external location. This is expensive from both a labour and materials point-of-view. Often there is an internal drain much closer, and using a hotun dry-trap tundish the outlet can be connected directly into it. hotun's unique design stops foul smells from coming back up from the drain into the building. The addition of a 'hotun detect' alarm unit to any hotun tundish adds a layer of protection to the whole system as it will detect water passing through the tundish, a sign that there is something wrong, and alert its presence both audibly and visually. The cost of a hotun and hotun detect together is considerably less than the cost of the usual method.
