Description
DELIVERABLES / SCOPE OF WORK
The Institute of Ocean Sciences (IOS) is located in Sidney BC on the Saanich Inlet. At this facility, several components on the dock are in need of repairs. This project involves conducting work on three separate structures. This includes the removal and disposal of the existing A-Jetty Wharf, the replacement of the D-Dock wharfhead with a new wharfhead, and repairs to the E-Dock abutment. As a result, this project can be broken up in to three sections as stated below.
Removal and disposal of the existing A-Jetty wharf.
This structure, which used to act as a travel-lift platform, is currently not being used and is in need of demolition. This work involves safely demolishing this structure without impacting the surrounding aquatic environment, and the proper disposal of all of the material.
Replacement of the D-Dock wharfhead with a new wharfhead.
This structure is currently aging and being undermined, therefore, it is in need of replacement. This work involves the removal and disposal of the existing D-dock wharfhead, and the installation of the new wharfhead. This includes but is not limited to installing the piles, pile caps, pre-cast deck panels, and railings.
Repairing the E-Dock lock block abutment.
This abutment is currently being undermined and there is an opening beneath the bottom layer of lock blocks. This work involves using concrete to fill this cavity in order to stabilize this abutment.

OPTIONAL SITE VISIT
Before submitting a bid, it is recommended that bidders visit the site and its surroundings to review and verify the form, nature and extent of the work, materials needed for the completion of the work, the means of access to the site, any accommodations they may require, and in general shall obtain all necessary information as to risks, contingencies and other circumstances which may influence or affect their bid or costs to do the work. No allowance shall be made subsequently in this connection on account of error or negligence to properly observe and determine the conditions that will apply.
Contractors, bidders or those they invite to site are to review specification Health and Safety Requirements before visiting site. Take all appropriate safety measures for any visit to site, either before or after acceptance of bid.
