Description
With the FAIR project (Facility for Antiproton and Ion Research), one of the world's most modern particle accelerator and experimental facilities is currently being built at the GSI site in Darmstadt. The facility complex, developed and financed with international participation, will be used for basic scientific research and for experimental purposes in numerous applied scientific disciplines. The task of realizing the facility was transferred to FAIR GmbH, which was founded in 2010. The GSI Helmholtzzentrum für Schwerionenforschung carries out numerous administrative and technical tasks within the framework of agreements concluded with FAIR GmbH and, among other things, handles certain procurement processes. For the core accelerator of the FAIR facility, the heavy ion synchrotron SIS100, eight vacuum chambers are required, which will be used as beam tubes in selected superconducting quadrupole magnets. These will be installed in the magnet yokes and operated within a cryogenic environment at liquid helium temperatures.
