Deutsche Welle produces journalistic services in 30 languages for foreign countries at its locations in Bonn and Berlin. DW has a worldwide multimedia presence: with six television channels, a modern web presence and radio in Africa and parts of Asia. DW uses the rights management system REIS to determine the rights of use for its productions. Since 2012, the contractually agreed rights of use for third-party material have been managed there (e.g., the rights of use for the productions of the DW Group, the DW Group and the DW Group). Since 2014, video contributions have been documented in terms of content by the editorial offices with the aid of the so-called DigiVN (Digital Use Note) and partly automatically provided with use information. The display of the possible uses of a contribution is shown as a red-yellow-green traffic light display. In this way, the reusability and the possibility of passing on a contribution can be checked quickly and easily. The data collected in the DigiVNs also form the basis for usage reports to third parties. DW regularly reports any third-party material used by it, e.g. to GEMA/GVL, ARD/ZDF or news agencies.
