Description
The Cross Island Line (CRL) was announced in January 2013 as part of Singapore’s transport master plan to double the length of its rail network to 360km and bring 8 in 10 households within a 10-minute walk of a train station by 2030.
This is one of three tender packages (A, B, and C) for the Eastern section of the CRL. We expect Design and Build contracts to be tendered from early 2018.
The CRL will be 50km long and, by crossing Singapore between Changi in the Northeast and Jurong Industrial Estate in the Southwest, will provide commuters an alternative to the existing East-West Line. With some 30 stations it will also pass through Loyang, Pasir Ris, Hougang, Ang Mo Kio, Sin Ming, Bukit Timah, and Clementi. Nearly half its stations will be interchange stations with other MRT lines. Subject to the outcome of site investigation works and an Environment Impact Assessment in 2014-16, a short middle section of the CRL will either pass through (2km) or around (9km) Singapore’s Central Catchment Nature Reserve. It is expected to have a daily ridership of at least 600,000 commuters.
