Description

The four-lane N1 motorway, which went into operation in 1987, runs longitudinally through the dense settlement area in the St.Gallen area. By the year 2030, the N1 will be considerably congested in the St.Gallen area, on the section from Winkeln to Neudorf. In addition, a comprehensive rehabilitation of the motorway section is planned from 2037. A parallel project is the feeder road to the freight station. It consists of a half-connection to the existing N1, west of the Schorentunnel from/to Zurich, the Feldli tunnel, which has a twin-tube route to a roundabout under the freight yard area, and the Liebegg single-tube tunnel, which extends into the Liebegg. The roundabout ensures the connection to the subordinate road network up to Geltenwilenstrasse and Oberstrasse. The published project consists of the tunnel Liebegg and the 3 connections Liebegg, Geltenwilenstrasse and Oberstrasse.
