SBH | Schulbau Hamburg, as a state-owned enterprise of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg (hereinafter referred to as SBH), has the task of planning, building, maintaining and managing school properties in accordance with economic principles, taking into account school requirements, and of leasing the more than 400 schools to the Ministry of Schools and Vocational Training (BSB).

The subject of this construction project is the refurbishment of the Strenge elementary school, located at Strenge 5, 22391 Hamburg (Wellingsbüttel). The building was erected in 1936 and is a listed building. There are three floors with a total usable area of approx. 2,940 m². The construction site equipment area is located in the schoolyard behind the building. Access is via Huswedelweg (alternatively via Strenge). The construction work will take place while the school is in session, with mobile classrooms being erected on the site. The work is divided into 4 construction phases, which are carried out in direct succession:
0.BA: 2 escape staircases street side and assembly hall
1st construction phase: Refurbishment of the lower ground floor assembly hall and upper ground floor specialist rooms above it
2nd construction phase: refurbishment of south wing basement, ground floor, upper floor
3rd construction phase: refurbishment of east wing basement, ground floor, upper floor
The construction measures are divided into the aforementioned construction phases and additionally divided into "refurbishment" and "conversion". The refurbishment measures include all services required for the proper refurbishment of the school. The conversion measures include all services required to turn the previous "corridor school" into a "compartment school". The fire compartments will be changed for this purpose. Necessary corridors are largely eliminated, the classrooms form a fire compartment with the
each form a fire compartment with the corridors in front of them. The roof is covered with clay tiles on cardboard docks. An inspection passageway with a cherry picker is planned. A
new small flat roof area is being created on the new external elevator shaft (street escape stairs). The façade on the east wing will be subsequently sealed. Some cracks are visible. Overall, the façade is in good condition. The windows were replaced less than 10 years ago and are in very good condition. Only the
windows required due to the new fire protection concept will be replaced. According to the structural engineer and fire protection experts, the ceilings meet current regulations and therefore do not need to be upgraded. The school is divided into compartments. All subsequent changes are taken into account. The parquet floors in the classrooms are refurbished and resealed. Solnhofen tiles are laid in the corridors and stairwells, which are cleaned and refurbished. In addition, some rooms are fitted with rubber flooring. The tiled floors and walls in the sanitary areas will be retained, as the sanitary areas were only renovated a few years ago. The walls will be retained as far as possible. Some wall openings will be made to create the compartments and some corridor walls will be demolished in the basement; the acoustic ceilings are all worn out and will be replaced. Hera Design ceilings will be used without exception, in the stairwells in a non-combustible version. The lighting will also be replaced and
renewed and converted to LED. Two new external escape staircases and
an elevator. The escape stairs consist of a steel construction, the elevator shaft is made of reinforced concrete.
