Description

The Pulsed Laser Deposition ("Pulsed Laser Deposition," henceforth PLD) system will become part of the fleet of machines installed in the PoliFAB center at the Politecnico di Milano, enabling it to meet the needs of internal users, external users (through the NFFA_DI project) and industrial partnerships.
The system shall allow the deposition of complex materials, typically oxides and/or nitrides, in vacuum (Ultra High Vacuum, henceforth UHV) or in oxygen or nitrogen and on samples up to 4 inches.The system shall have a chamber for loading and unloading samples without having to ventilate the main chamber ("load lock" chamber, henceforth load lock). The loading/unloading of samples shall be manual, while the management of the vacuum, laser, and the entire material deposition recipe shall be automated (software-controlled), once the user has chosen all deposition parameters. The load lock (or alternatively, the deposition chamber) will also have to allow for the transfer (insertion/extraction) of Omicron-type samples ("Omicron Flag-type wafer carrier") to a "vacuum case" (not included in the PLD system) and onto the PLD sample carrier.
