Description
The monastery ruins on Hovedøya require continual maintenance and follow-up. It is now time to inspect and repair small and larger damages that have occurred over time due to, amongst other things, frost weathering and wear from visitors.
Oslo Municipality, c/o the Agency for Urban Environment (BYM) manages large parts of Hovedøya, with the exception some buildings that are managed by the Agency for Property and Urban Renewal in Oslo Municipality (EBY). Hovedøya monastery was established in 1146 or 1147 by monks from the monastery in Kirkstead in Lincoln. The monastery ruins are currently part of what BYM has the management responsibility for. This includes maintenance of the ruins. The monastery ruins on Hovedøya require continual maintenance and follow-up. It is now time to inspect and repair small and larger damages that have occurred over time due to, amongst other things, frost weathering and wear from visitors.Repairs to the walls have been previously carried out with varying success. The degree of damage is now large and there is a need to go over the brickwork. Damages must be repaired and measures must be carried out in order to secure the ruins for the future.
