Description
This order concerns the supply of radiopharmaceuticals more specifically Tc99m generators, cold kits and hot kits. Radiopharmaceuticals are medicines that bring radioactivity to a certain organ in the body. Usually, radiopharmaceuticals are administered via an injection. Radiopharmaceuticals are used in the nuclear medicine department. A large part of the radiopharmaceuticals is used for diagnostics. Nuclear research tries to make diseases or abnormalities of organs visible. This is possible because the radiation emitted by the radiopharmaceutical is captured by specific scanners. A scanner, such as the SPECT and PET/CT, can convert the radiation into an image of an organ. This is called a scintigram. The nuclear physician assesses the scintigram and can then say something about how a particular organ functions. There are also radiopharmaceuticals that are used for therapy.
