The company in question has Oil and Gas producing fields in various locations, including onshore in the west coast of Qatar (Dukhan Field) and at a number of locations offshore. Oil produced offshore is transported via submarine pipeline to a central storage and export complex situated on Halul Island which is around 42 miles north east of Doha.
The island is hilly and raises to an elevation of 202 feet and occupies an area of approximately 1.5 square kilometers. The main activities at the Halul Terminal and Export Facility are extensive and include:

3. Treating and disposing of the produced water seperated from the crude oil.
In 2004 and 2012 ecological surveys weer undertaken on the marine environment around the island with the purposed being to assess the conditions of seawater, sediment and biodata in the marine environment.
