On the site of the former transmission facility on the outskirts of Jülich and in the immediate vicinity of the Aachen University of Applied Sciences campus, a science park and innovative business park with an area of around 52 hectares is currently being built (hereinafter referred to as "Brainergy Park Jülich").

The AG has the task of supplying the properties in the Brainergy Park with heating, cooling and energy services.
To this end, the AG will carry out the following construction measures in particular in the coming years:

? Construction of the network infrastructure (local heating, electricity, fiber optics)
? Construction of a technical center (construction of plant technology)

The Brainergy Park Jülich site (52 ha innovative industrial estate) is located to the north of Jülich on a plateau to the east of the River Rur, the so-called Merscher Höhe. Prehistoric and Roman sites are known from the surrounding area. In addition, during the sieges of 1610 and 1621-22, a siege ring of redoubts was built around Jülich, including on the Merscher Höhe. In 2018\/19, a qualified prospection was carried out in the entire plan area, in the course of which several prehistoric, primarily Iron Age sites were discovered.

Against this background, the construction site of the aforementioned construction measures must be archaeologically investigated.

The commissioning of the archaeological investigation services in accordance with the terms of contract and the scope of services are the subject of this award procedure.
