The New Zealand Government has partnered with the Government of Kiribati to provide specialist technical assistance to the Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources Development, to implement a Catch-Based Management system in the longline tuna fishery and, consider options for catch-based management for a number of specific domestic coastal and nearshore fisheries.
This technical assistance will be targeted to assist the Government of Kiribati to create economic benefits, improved livelihoods, and food security through development, implementation and revision of a catch based management scheme for the offshore longline fishery. The New Zealand Government has agreed to support this endeavour through the New Zealand Aid Programme
This role will appeal if you are interested in being part of a programme that directly contributes to the enhancement of local communities in Kiribati.
The key functions of this role are:
•Securing and confirming endorsement of Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources Development key stakeholders for the detailed “Roadmap” for full implementation of a Catch-Based Management system for the tuna longline fishery
•Oversee the Roadmap’s implementation, including capacity development and application of new technology.
•Technical advice and training/mentoring to Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources Development staff on implementing the Catch-Based Management system, including but not restricted to; catch reporting and data management (along with the potential for e-logging), monitoring, compliance, and policy and legal requirements of the proposed Catch-Based Management scheme.
