Description
The French Hazard WUI Project area lies along the eastern slope of West Mountain near Cascade, Idaho. The surrounding communities are listed in the National Fire Plan (USDA 2000) as communities at risk from wildfire. The West Mountain Geographic area has been identified as a community at risk under the Valley County wildland fire mitigation plan. The Boise NF has determined the West Mountain Geographic area meets the definition of an at-risk community as defined in the HFRA.
The project requires road construction and reconstruction to facilitate future vegetation and prescribed fire treatment activities within and adjacent to the project area. The new road (435A8) is approximately 2.4 miles long, Operational Maintenance Level (ML) 2, closed to public motorized use and open to administrative use only. Additionally, road reconstruction will occur on approximately 10 miles of system roads (Roads 435, 435A, 435G, and 438).
