The German Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) commissioned the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) to implement the project ‘Strengthening Public Financial and Economic Management’ (GIZ PFEM Malawi) in Malawi for the period April 2018 to March 2021.The overall objective of the project is to ensure that public financial management in Malawi has made improvements to efficiency, the regularity of budget implementation, revenue collection and external control mechanisms.
The lead executing agency is the Ministry of Finance, Economic Planning and Development. Other important partners of GIZ-PFEM Malawi are Malawi Revenue Authority (MRA), the National Audit Office (NAO) and selected units in the Office of the President and Cabinet (OPC). The project involves civil society actors as additional stakeholders in its activities, especially on issues to do with transparency and freedom of information.NAO (National Audit Office) of Malawi is one of Government partners of the project under component ‘External Control and Accountability’. In line with the support to NAO to enhance capacities in conducting Forensic audits; GIZ-PFEM would like to procure the service of a consulting firm to develop a forensic audit manual, train the professional audit staff in conducting forensic audits and perform one (1) pilot forensic audit.
