Description

Conversion and renovation of the Koblenz gate wing for interim use of the lecture halls.

The main building of the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn is to be completely renovated and the university's operations completely restructured. The building complex is currently used by the university administration and three humanities faculties and associated institutes and mainly houses offices and staff rooms, lecture halls, seminar and meeting rooms, libraries, museum areas, an assembly hall and the early classicist castle church. The future space requirements of the various university uses will be relocated and reorganized in the main building and in additional buildings. Interim facilities are required for the ongoing operation of the University of Bonn during the renovation of the main building.

In its current form, the university's main building consists of the four-wing, three-storey main wing, the two-storey Kaiserplatz wing and the east wing. The latter can be divided into the two-storey Stockentor wing with appendix and the adjoining three-storey Koblenzertor wing.

The lecture halls are to be located in the Koblenzertor wing as an interim solution during the renovation work.

The Coblenz Gate Wing was built in the 18th century during the French Baroque period. Despite being destroyed in the Second World War, the outer walls and the vaulted ceiling in the gate above the passageway have been preserved. All ceilings, staircases, interior walls and roofs, as well as parts of the exterior walls, were rebuilt in the 1950s. The Koblenz gate wing has a total gross floor area of approx. 10,832 m2. The building is a listed building.

In addition to the interim lecture theatres with the necessary work rooms, sanitary facilities, storage rooms and kitchenettes, there will also be rooms for the Bonn University Museum. The installation of two passenger elevators is also planned. As the core refurbishment of the main building is largely dependent on the relocation of the lecture theatres, a key project objective is the rapid implementation of the measure.

The conversion work is scheduled to begin in September 2026 and be completed before the start of the core refurbishment of the entire main building in November 2028.

The focus is also on a sustainable conversion concept for the use of the lecture halls that is appropriate for listed buildings and conserves resources, also with regard to subsequent usage requirements.

The technical equipment, project planning and structural planning services are to be provided using building information modeling. An as-built survey (3D laser scan \/ 3D Revit model) has already been carried out for this purpose.

No BNB certification is required for this construction project. However, a BNB "Silver" certification is being sought for the overall core refurbishment of the main building at the University of Bonn. To this end, key objectives should already be taken into account in the conversion work for the interim lecture theatres in the Koblenzertor wing.

In accordance with the preservation order, the goals of an Efficiency House 55 are to be pursued as part of the overall measure.
