Description
Project Title: Engagement and active community participation in the River Suir catchment through animation and novel and innovative citizen science (eDNA) targeting internationally important aquatic species of conservation significance.
Background
Suircan is a community forum initiated by and for residents and users of Clonmel Town, Co. Tipperary, to engage with the town's Public Space and adjacent environs. We have a particular interest in the conservation of the river Suir and it’s associated Biodiversity. Suircan aims to work with the relevant state agencies and the public to ensure that these objectives are achieved for the public good and for nature in its own right.
Specifications
Suircan proposes to engage in a competitive process for the tendering of a project to engage the public in a citizen science based project using novel and innovative (eDNA) scientific techniques to determine the range of three species of conservation importance designated under the EU Habitats Directive. The aim is to map using eDNA sampling at 120 locations across the catchment the range and determine “hot spots” or refuge areas for the following three species 1. white clawed crayfish (Austropotamobius pallipes), 2. freshwater pearl mussel (Margaritifera margaritifera and 3. sea lamprey (Petromyzon marinus). A higher objective to determine genetic variation within the existing freshwater pearl mussel populations would be an advantage.
It is emphasised that the tender process constitutes no guarantee to purchase from a particular contractor until a tender is awarded and contract signed. Please refer to the Bill of Quantities which outlines all the items needed. Tenders must include itemised costs and must include the rate of VAT charged.
