Description

1. Background: All domes􀆟c water at the Fermi Na􀆟onal Accelerator Laboratory (Fermilab) site is supplied by the City of Warrenville. The domes􀆟c water then travels through nearly 21 miles of piping to reach its eventual des􀆟na􀆟on. The result is “hard” water that requires treatment by water so􀅌ening units installed throughout the Fermilab property. A total of thirty-two (32) water so􀅌eners (see Atachment 1, Water So􀅌ener Loca􀆟ons) are installed at mul􀆟ple loca􀆟ons to assist in so􀅌ening the water to prepare it for a variety of applica􀆟ons.
So􀅌 water is important to certain buildings and laboratories as it is used for humidifiers and cooling for computer centers. Hard water can calcify and clog orifices, causing damage to computer banks. So􀅌 water is also required for various processes in experiments, loop systems, regenera􀆟on for LCW applica􀆟ons, and dish washing.
Preventa􀆟ve maintenance is performed by Fermi Research Alliance (FRA) site mechanics. Correc􀆟ve maintenance and/or replacement of these units is beyond the scope of site maintenance’s exper􀆟se. FRA is in need of a subcontractor to be responsible for all correc􀆟ve maintenance and/or replacement of the site’s water so􀅌ener units as the needs are iden􀆟fied. The subcontractor would also perform installa􀆟on of new units in loca􀆟ons determined appropriate by FRA.
2. Scope of Work
2.1. All work will be scheduled by FRA contac􀆟ng the Subcontractor to set an agreeable 􀆟me and date.
2.2. All work will be performed at the Fermilab site in Batavia, Illinois.
2.3. The subcontractor shall provide all labor, material, and supervision necessary to perform correc􀆟ve maintenance and replacement of all water so􀅌ener units at the Fermilab site (see Atachment 1, Water So􀅌ener Loca􀆟ons).
2.4. The subcontractor shall provide all labor, material, and supervision necessary to perform installa􀆟on of new water so􀅌ener units as directed by FRA.
2.5. Perform repairs / correc􀆟ve maintenance of non-func􀆟oning / malfunc􀆟oning water so􀅌eners.
2.5.1. Examples of correc􀆟ve maintenance may include: broken / cracked tubes, malfunc􀆟oning tank float, replacement or repair of check valves, repair of damage to external so􀅌ener body, repair or replacement of flow valves, failure of electronic flowmeter or other electronic parts, and other maintenance items outside of the technical ability of in house maintenance technicians as determined by FRA.
2.5.2. Subcontractor will perform an inspec􀆟on to diagnose issues and provide a quote prior to ordering parts and materials needed for repair.
2.6. Replace water so􀅌ener units when they cannot be repaired.
2.6.1. Replacement may be required due to end of life, gross failure of a unit, or when correc􀆟ve maintenance costs would exceed the costs of a new unit.
2.6.2. Subcontractor will perform an inspec􀆟on to diagnose issues and provide a quote prior to ordering parts and materials needed for replacement.
2.7. Procure and install new water so􀅌ener systems at new loca􀆟ons when requested by FRA personnel.
2.7.1. Subcontractor will provide a quote prior to ordering parts and materials needed for installa􀆟on of new units.
