Description
The Government of Jamaica (GoJ), represented by the Ministry of Economic Growth and Job Creation (MEGJC) intends to procure the services of Contractors via the International Competitive Bidding (ICB) Procurement Methodology in the field of General Road Works to undertake roadway rehabilitation related to the Shared Prosperity through Accelerated Improvement to our Road Network (hereinafter called SPARK) Programme.
In 2023, the GOJ announced its plan to implement the SPARK project. The project targets improvements in secondary, parochial, and community roads. SPARK aims to enhance the quality, safety, and sustainability of Jamaica's road network through systematic improvement, i.e. rehabilitation, and repair interventions. The project seeks to:
- improve road conditions
- reduce travel time
- enhance road safety
- stimulate economic growth by facilitating smoother transportation of goods and services across the country
SPARK will be organized under two (2) categories of works, namely:
- The NWA Main Roads Component involves intricate tasks encompassing major road repairs, rehabilitation, and reconstruction. These tasks necessitate enhancements to geometrical and structural features, alongside the installation of drainage systems, water infrastructure improvements, fiber optic ducts, and road markings and signage.
- The Municipal Roads Component focuses on road rehabilitation and reconstruction, repairs/upgrade to drains, road markings and signage. Additionally, reconstruction of inadequate drainage facilities and retaining walls, utilizing standard designs, will be undertaken. Limited water infrastructure improvements may also be included in these works.
