WorldSkills Shanghai 2021 has been listed as one of priorities from Chinese government and and FE colleges have been encouraged to attend various provincial level and national level competitions.
The areas of focus for the WorldSkills competition preparation are:

- 3D digital game art
- floristry
- visual merchandising
- mobile robotics
- chemical laboratory technology
- CNC milling
- electronics
- electrical installation
- mechatronics
- industrial control
- poly-mechanics and automation
- water technology
The institutions are looking to organise friendly competition with UK institutions to better prepare for the WorldSkills Shanghai 2021.
They are also looking for train the trainer programmes and co-develop curriculum's to improve its teaching quality.
