Description

The Wilhelmstrasse and Herzogenstrasse are located north of the newly redesigned Eichhornstrasse and are located in the historic old town. The City of Würzburg intends to expand the two streets in accordance with their urban planning significance and thus to extend the pedestrian zone in the inner city. Following the restructuring of Eichhornstrasse and Spiegelstrasse into a car-free zone, it is the logical consequence to expand it and to further enhance the quality of life in the city centre. The planned expansion area of Wilhelmstrasse begins at the connection to Eichhornstrasse and flows into Herzogenstrasse. The Herzogenstraße extends with a total length of approx. 130 m from the Schönbornstraße and also changes into the Eichhornstraße. The total area covered by the project is approximately 1 400 m2. Of which 1 000 m2 in the Herzogenstrasse area and 400 m2 in Wilhelmstrasse. The infrastructural development (gas, water and canal) is already being carried out in advance of the measure, so that no further civil engineering measures will be carried out within the scope of the redesign, apart from the renewal of the surface. Archaeological investigations are also carried out here, as was already the case with the Eichhornstrasse and Spiegelstrasse reconstruction project. The Wilhelmstraße is to be extended with a high-quality granite stone in bound construction according to the connection to the Eichhornstraße. In the area of the Herzogenstraße a bound construction method is also planned, however the surface with concrete stone. As in Eichhornstraße, a tree location with the same seating possibilities is also planned here. The lighting concept from Eichhornstraße is to be taken up and taken into account during the planning and execution of the project. Accessibility will become an important component of new planning and must be taken into account to this end. The complete reconstruction measure is to be co-financed by the Federal-Länder Urban Development Promotion Programme IV - Active Centres. A first cost estimate of the entire measure including the BNK resulted in ~ EUR 1.8 million gross.
