Description

Tenders are sought for the supply, delivery and installation of a Portable Greenhouse Gas Analyser able to measure at least carbon dioxide and methane at low detection limits and high precision as part of an EU funded Interreg VB NWE project: Care Peat. The remit of this project is to demonstrate the carbon reduction capacity of peatland restoration on greenhouse gas exchanges. In peatlands, methane is often present a low concentrations, however is an important component of the carbon budget. This instrument will provide critical capacity to estimate greenhouse gas flux measures from peatlands at various states of degradation. It will be used primarily to make regular (minimum monthly) measures at remote field locations, thus portability (size and weight) is also an important criteria after analytical precision.
The Care Peat Project will use the closed chamber method, which consists in inserting a collar in the peat and then a chamber placed on the collars in a way that the system is airtight (no exchange of gas with the exterior). The gas within the chamber will need to be analysed by a sensor located outside the chamber and equipped with a pump that draw air from and put it back to the chamber. The instrument thus must be suitable to perform these measures. The project will have two sites with approximately 12 collars within a series of plots that reflect the dominant vegetation of the area. We will measure the fluxes sequentially with the same chamber-sensor, thus the requirement of a portable analyser.
