Description

The government is looking to strengthen resilience of its population and address issues of poverty and youth unemployment by a strategy focused on:
- improving the labour market relevance of skills in selected sectors
- increasing the efficiency and coverage of the Social Protection (SP) system

To achieve these objectives, it is focusing on 2 components:
- technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), which concentrates on the promotion of higher quality technical and socio-emotional skills and the transformation of the TVET sector from a supply-driven system to a demand-driven system that responds to the labour market
- strengthening social protection policy frameworks and improving the implementation of flagship social programs with an emphasis on increasing the efficiency and coverage of the Public Assistance Programme (PAP), Saint Lucia’s main cash transfer programme

Further information is available on request from the Department for International Trade team in Barbados.
