Description

Most of the media to be digitized date back to the 20th century. The material is usually packed in paper envelopes. The average number of pages per work is 20, and the digitisation of the damaged media must be carried out with acidic paper of varying intensity and yellowing. Nearly all works contain single loose pages, partly the paper is attacked at the edges, so that for example corners can be missing. The main part of the sides is nevertheless preserved and stable. The bindings (both original and library bindings) are in relatively good condition, in some cases the spine may be loose or broken (approx. 10% of the holdings). Approx. 70 % of the works are printed in antiqua script, about 30 % in fraktur script, most volumes are printed in black and white, only a few (approx. 10 %) contain partly coloured illustrations and / or tables. Very rarely are folded inserts part of the media works, they can have a different format (< 1%). 20% of the media are monographs for which bibliographic metadata are available. 80% of the media are journals or multi-volume works without their own bibliographic metadata. The works to be digitised have the following formats:- spine height up to 25 cm: approx. 30 %,- spine height up to 35 cm: approx. 55 %,- spine height up to 42 cm: approx. 15 %.In addition to the media works mentioned and described above, other types of material (special materials), such as single-page prints, postcards or posters, must occasionally also be digitised. The state of preservation of these materials corresponds to that of the media works described above. The maximum size of these materials is DIN A 1. The following services are to be provided:- Installation of scanning and PC workstations at the DNB premises in Leipzig,- Receipt of the media delivered by the client on shelves in the workspace provided,- Unpacking of the media from their protective covers,- Digitisation of the media. The work must be carried out in a media-friendly manner. The use of feed scanners is excluded,- Generation of technical metadata per object,- Generation of simple bibliographic metadata for journal issues etc.,- Text recognition by means of OCR, quality assurance of the produced digital copies and metadata as well as of the OCR data, access to a monitoring system, which the client continuously uses to carry out its own quality assurance measures as well as, if necessary, to monitor the quality of the produced digital copies and metadata. enables complaints to be lodged about digital copies and metadata, including statistical functions,- generation of transfer packages and checksums per object,- storage of digital copies and metadata on a storage system provided by the client,- securing of work results for 90 days after transfer of the data to a storage system provided by the client,- packing of the media in protective sleeves provided by DNB, the processed media are returned to the client in the work space provided, - qualified personnel (including a permanent contact person (project management) for all questions for the duration of the entire project on site) are provided. All equipment used for digitisation and processing shall be provided by the contractor.
