China - Qualifications and training for alternative energy

Description

A university and a higher vocational college are launching pilot projects to reform a cluster of alternative energy majors.

They want collaboration with UK universities, colleges, institutions or industrial organisations that specialise in alternative energy.

They are looking for cooperation on qualifications or certificates about operation and maintenance work in alternative energy, especially wind turbines and photovoltaic power stations

They also also want cooperation on educational training and operational ability assessment, as in the example of the UK apprenticeship system. They are also interested in awarding bodies or industry associations that specialise in:

- dual degree programmes
- master's degree programs
- opportunities for student mobility
- opportunities for faculty development and exchange
- opportunities for visiting research scholars
- joint research projects in fields of mutual interests
- exchange of academic publications and reports
- sharing of experiences in innovative teaching methods and course design
- organisation of joint symposia, workshops, and conferences
- development of collaborative programs

The university:

- has been located in Xi’an City, Shan' xi since 1895.
- is recognised as one of China's most influential universities in civil engineering and architecture
- has a faculty and staff of over 2,500, about 40,000 students, including about 19,000 undergraduates, over 5,000 postgraduates, and about 14,000 students at the vocational and technical college level, plus the college of further education
- has 16 schools and departments offering 56 undergraduate programs to students
- specialises in architecture, city planning, civil engineering, environmental engineering, building environment and facility engineering, engineering management, material science and engineering, water and wastewater engineering, and art design

The college:

- was established in 2001 in Tianjin
- covers 58 hectares and has a building area of 190,000 square meters with more than 10,000 students

It has 6 groups including:

- digital design and advanced manufacturing
- intelligent equipment automation
- alternative energy and energy-conserving technology
- information and intelligent technology
- creative product design and promotion
- modern service and management

There are 33 higher vocational majors and 2 joint training skills undergraduate majors.

The university is renowned for:

- mould design and manufacturing
- photovoltaic power generation technology and application
- e-commerce and training domestic leaders in several areas, including computer network technology, clothing design and technology, CNC equipment application and maintenance, environmental art design and marketing
