Tipperary’s Ambition for Tourism Product Development
Tipperary County Council has achieved significant progress in tourism product development in recent years. Successful projects include the enhancement of lakeside experiences on Lough Derg, the development of the Lough Derg Blueway, The Butler Trail, Suir Blueway Tipperary, and significant support to Fethard Horse Country Experience and Munster Vales. This coupled with the planning and delivery of numerous improvements to public realm, recreation space and walking infrastructure across the county illustrates clearly that Tipperary County Council recognises the important opportunity tourism provides in terms of economic impact, job creation and sustainability. However at this juncture the Council recognises that Tipperary has not yet reached its potential in this area, to assist the Council to deliver on its ambition to significantly improve the visitor experience in the county and to transition Tipperary from a transit zone to a touring zone thus increasing capacity, dwell time, bed nights and extending the tourism season, a Tourism Product Development Plan is now required. This plan will identify opportunities for hero / flagship product development and provide detailed guidance on the creation of; new innovative tourism products / experiences, the development of new clusters of immersive tourism products, and the addition of new products to existing clusters. This plan will harness innovation in the industry, and leverage technology to develop unique experiences. Tipperary has potential to offer world class visitor experiences in culture and heritage, outdoor activities, health and well being, to name a few, this plan will assist the Council is realising this ambition. This plan will focus on the motivations of the international markets – the culturally curious and great escapers, whilst also keeping the needs of the local community within Tipperary at the centre of all tourism development projects, allowing the visitor to authentically connect to the cult
