Description

The project for the implementation of the cultural utilisation concept in Zerbst Castle consists of three linked components. This includes the implementation of the fire protection concept, the production of the final ceiling with roof above the Mitelrisalit and the construction of an elevator with the connection of all floors of the castle. The further opening and cultural use of Zerbst Palace depends on the execution of these measures. Component IThe concept for implementing the fire protection concept comprises structural measures and technical equipment. Three new external doors and numerous fire doors inside as well as two fire protection walls to seal off the three stairwells have to be manufactured and installed. In addition, two new escape routes to the castle courtyard are to be realised via steel staircases. The northern entrance and exit is additionally to be equipped with a platform lift or a lifting platform in order to create barrier-free access to the ground floor for the first time in the history of the castle. In addition, structural safety measures must be taken at the exit of the central risalit and provisionally closed window openings restored. In addition, fire extinguishers, emergency lighting in the stairwells and various levels, escape route pictograms and a house alarm system must be installed. Without the implementation of the fire protection concept and the requirements of the building regulations office of the county, the further cultural use of the Zerbst Castle is not possible, the old limited use permit from 2011 is no longer valid.Component IIDThe new end ceiling with roof will be built above the second floor of the central risalit to make use of the rooms and areas below. Before the new ceiling can be erected, the main cornices at risk of collapsing and the dilapidated emergency ceilings with their concrete joists of a different nature must be demolished and the balustrades, figures and vases at risk of collapse must be removed and secured. A reinforced concrete ceiling is then installed over the entire area of the central risalit with the exception of the staircase. At the same time, the two main cornices connected to the ceiling on the courtyard and garden sides are being reconstructed. In the next step, the two flights of stairs are to be led back to the roof level and the missing parts of the two groined vaults are to be completed. The final step is the production of a durable roof with trapezoidal sheet metal covering. Without the installation of the final ceiling and the roof, the hall and the adjoining rooms on the second floor are not accessible to visitors and cannot be used culturally. Component IIIDThe construction of an elevator to create barrier-free access to all floors of the palace is only possible in the northwestern part of the palace for technological and heritage reasons.Only by moving in new ceilings above the first and second upper floors of the Corps de logis and sealing them with a permanent roof and reinstalling an axis of the Corps de logis is it possible to connect the elevator to all floors of the castle. The elevator to be built will not only provide access to all floors of the palace, but will also ensure barrier-free access from the courtyard and the approximately six-metre lower path on the north side of the palace. the implementation of the three components of the cultural use concept in Zerbst Palace will enable the commissioning of all restored palace rooms and their cultural use, as well as, above all, barrier-free access for all visitor groups.
