Description

500 St Cold Terminals.
The contractor (AN) is to build 500 cold terminals made of superconducting material for operation in the SIS100 particle accelerator, which is part of the international FAIR project. The current adapters are components of power supply lines for SIS100 correction magnets. They are designed for an operating current of 250 A and are to be operated at an operating temperature of approx. 4.5 K. The adapter connects the power supply made of high-temperature superconductor to the magnet coil, which is made of NiTi wire. It consists of 2 parts, which are glued together with a thin layer of glass fibre composite. This layer represents a thermal coupling of the current-carrying part to the cooling line and electrically insulates it from the ground. The current-carrying part consists of a copper carrier with soldered-on superconductor. The production is carried out according to drawings provided by the customer (AG). The Factory Acceptance Test is carried out individually for each adapter and includes high-voltage tests and a test in liquid nitrogen under the operating current of up to 300 A DC. These tests are to be carried out by the AN according to the specification of the AG.
