Description
The Dunedin City Council (Council) owns the Moray Place/Filleul Street Carpark in Dunedin (Site).
The Site is considered a prime site in Dunedin. It is immediately opposite the Dunedin Town Hall and in close proximity to the Octagon, which is considered the "heart" of the Dunedin Central Business District.
The Site is close to inner city restaurants and cafes, the Art Gallery, the historic Railway Station, Toitū Early Settlers Museum and Lan Yuan (the Dunedin Chinese Garden). It is a short distance from Otago University and from Dunedin's covered stadium which hosts everything from international rugby games to world famous bands.
The Site is approximately 6,480m2 and is one of the few large blocks of land left in central Dunedin in single ownership. It is currently used for ground level carparking, but has huge development potential.
The Council has long perceived the need for a high quality inner city hotel in Dunedin and sees this Site as being ideally located for such a hotel development.
The Council is seeking registrations of interest from developers who are interested in purchasing the Site from the Council for the purpose of building a high quality inner city hotel (preferably a five star hotel, as defined by Qualmark New Zealand).
The Council envisages that the design of the hotel will incorporate street level retail and allow for public carparking. It is expecting that the hotel will include facilities normally associated with a five star hotel.
The Council anticipates that developers may want to build other buildings on the Site, in addition to a high quality hotel or through having a high quality hotel as part of a development complex.
