On the dry dock site in Antwerp, the APB Havencentrum of the Province of Antwerp is developing a new and dynamic port experience center in collaboration with Port of Antwerp-Bruges. The present APB Port Centre of the Province of Antwerp (with an educational component) and Portopolis of Port of Antwerp-Bruges (with a tourist component) will merge to form a completely new experience center, scheduled to open in June 2025. The Rotterdam architectural firm Atelier Kempe Thill was recently appointed for the development of the entire site and the design of the port experience center. The mission and vision of the new port experience center have already been defined: Mission: The port experience center connects people and the port. We do this to position the port as a place of possibilities and opportunities, both on an individual and a social level. Vision: Top-level port experience. We offer top-level port experiences that linger in both hearts and minds. From real and honest stories we provide a differentiated and layered range of fun and content strong activities. We bring both the people to the port and the port to the people. Sensitize and activate. We activate and involve our entire community, but always start from our primary target group: children from kindergarten up to young people taking their first steps on the job market. We sensitize them to the importance of the port in their daily lives. Together with our partners, from companies to education, we show the entire ecosystem of the port, with all its sectors, as a place of possibilities and opportunities. Open and inclusive. We are open and inclusive in our approach and take into account the diversity of our audience. We give them a warm welcome, address them personally and actively involve them in what we do. We move each other along, as particles of the chain - just as the port itself works. The development of the new port experience center comprises several subprojects, in which "experience and product development" is a crucial part of making the port experience center a success. In the "experience and product development" part, the main objective is to create an inspiring, educational and innovative experience tailored to the various target groups. We want to enthuse them about the fascinating and diverse world of the port in order to increase/strengthen social support for the port (industry, logistics and maritime). We want to do this through consistent and well-tailored storylines by the opening of the port experience center in June 2025. The partner we are looking for will be responsible for the iterative design, development, creation, layout and maintenance of the experience part of the port experience center whereby at regular intervals testing, evaluation and adjustment will be done in co-creation with the project team. We focus on both individual visitors and (class) groups. Specific information about stakeholders, target groups, themes, key messages, possible risks and restrictions with regard to the construction, etc. will be provided together with the specifications in the form of a white paper. The Harbour Experience Centre comprises a total surface area of approximately 2,650 m² of which approximately 1,575 m² is planned for the experience areas (40% or approximately 630 m² high-end experience - 60% or approximately 945 m² low-end experience). A budget of approximately 2 million Euros has been provided for the totality of this assignment. The exact budget will be communicated with the specifications, as well as the concrete specifications of what must be realized within that budget. A strict scope to budget principle will be applied.
