United Arab Emirates - Drinking water fountains for Expo 2020

You must be able to provide creative concepts for water fountains for Sabeel 2020.

Sabeel 2020 is a programme that seeks to produce uniquely and innovatively designed drinking water fountains for the Expo 2020 Dubai site and its legacy.

A sabeel is a community water fountain that provides relief to passersby and travellers. It symbolises our collective responsibility and solidarity with people in our community and humanity as a whole.

The programme draws from the Expo 2020 theme of "Connecting Minds, Creating the Future" and its sub-themes of opportunity, mobility and sustainability.

A jury will select 3 shortlisted submissions. At least one of these will be mass-produced and installed at various Expo 2020 site locations.

A prize of around £22,500 (AED 100,000) will be paid to each successful winning applicant.

The eligibility criteria includes practitioners who:

- work as designers, architects, artists or within other creative industries
- have briefing or commissioning experience in the public realm
- can demonstrate the ability to design something suitable for permanent public display
- display awareness of environmental concerns and a commitment to the key principles that inform Expo 2020’s overall sustainability strategy
- embrace conceptual and visual ideas and designs that are original, dynamic, carefully considered and contextually appropriate
- have a proven track record of meeting budgets and deadlines
- are either from or based in the UAE (including UAE nationals and long-term residents)
- have a demonstrable and sustained relationship with the UAE and its values
